Our university's Çavdır Vocational School of Health Care Services Department Elderly Care Program organized elderly visits and awareness training within the scope of “October 1 World Elderly Day”. On this meaningful day, the contributions of our elderly to society and their life experiences were once again remembered, and our love and respect for them were expressed.

Aging is a natural phase of life and a period in which individuals undergo physical, mental, and social changes. In this process, understanding and meeting the needs of the elderly is of great importance. Challenges such as health problems, loneliness, and social isolation can negatively affect the quality of life of elderly individuals. Therefore, Elderly Care students, acting with the necessity of increasing the sensitivity of all segments of society to the issue of aging, demonstrated their social contribution and sensitivity on this meaningful day.

With the support of the Chief Physician of Çavdır State Hospital Dr. Mehmet Kavaz and Çavdır Municipality, and the contributions of our Vocational School Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Öçal, our Elderly Care students participated in home visits carried out by the hospital's home care unit. They not only provided health services to our elderly but also supported them by chatting, listening to their needs, and boosting their morale.

Additionally, on this meaningful day, an awareness training about aging and getting old was organized by the Head of the Health Care Services Department Lecturer Dr. Sultan Kılıç for our vocational school social services and elderly care students. In the seminar, the social, psychological, and physical dimensions of the aging process were discussed, and students were informed about effective communication with the elderly and methods of supporting them.

Our students gained information about the ways elderly individuals express themselves, their emotional needs, and social participation. Lecturer Dr. Kılıç, who talked about the importance of raising individuals aware of the aging process and bringing meaningful and the most accurate care providers to society, continued his words in line with our university's principle of “From Universal Knowledge to Social Contribution” and concluded the seminar with the statements, “We believe that such activities are of great importance in raising awareness of future social service and elderly care technicians and increasing their sensitivity towards the elderly. As the Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University family, we will continue to add meaning to the lives of our elderly, honor them, and meet their needs together.”
