Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) is hosting another internationally qualified education in the field of animal husbandry and veterinary medicine. The online training program titled "Improving Ruminant Biosecurity (IRB)" prepared by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Virtual Learning Center has been made accessible in Turkish with the contributions of our university.
The training program, which is completely free and offered online, aims to promote effective biosecurity practices in ruminant farms. The Turkish adaptation of the course was prepared with the contributions of our university faculty member Dr. Mehmet Murat Doğuşan as a consultant and instructor.
The training program, which lasts approximately 5 hours and consists of 3 sections, covers the topics of introduction to ruminant biosecurity, biosecurity assessment, and advanced ruminant biosecurity. The training content consists of practical and flexible modules aimed at different production models such as dairy farms, feedlot operations, grazing areas, and small-scale production systems.
The training program addresses cattle and sheep breeders, veterinarians, veterinary technical personnel, and all stakeholders involved in the ruminant industry. At the end of the program, participants are awarded an in-service training certificate accredited by FAO and VetCEE (European Continuous Veterinary Education).
Participants who successfully complete the training gain the competencies to explain the contributions of biosecurity in ruminant farms to human and animal health, develop cost-effective and feasible biosecurity measures, and prepare biosecurity plans specific to different production systems.
