Yapılış Tarihi | 20 May 2025, Tuesday
Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) Çavdır Vocational School students signed a meaningful event to create awareness within the scope of May 10-16 Disability Week. With the project named 'We Illuminate the Darkness' implemented by Social Work and Counseling Program students, a contribution was made to the education and cultural life participation of visually impaired individuals.
Within the framework of the event, volunteer students narrated novels and stories selected from world classics and delivered them to students studying at Denizli School for the Visually Impaired Primary and Secondary School. Thanks to the audiobooks, the access of visually impaired students to information was facilitated, while their interest in literary works was also supported.
Dr. Lecturer Feriha Duygu Samav Gürcü, who led the project, made the following statement about the event:
“With this social responsibility project we started in Çavdır, we aimed to contribute to both the education and social development of our visually impaired children. By delivering the works narrated voluntarily by our students to the needy schools in Denizli, we tried to touch their world. We will continue to support similar projects at all times. I thank all the students who supported us in this process, the Çavdır Vocational School administration, and the Mayor of Çavdır, Mr. Ali Okan Yücel.”
This event, carried out entirely on a voluntary basis, aims to encourage the participation of disabled individuals in cultural life while also creating awareness in society. Such projects, which contribute to students being raised as socially sensitive individuals, stand out as a beautiful example of university-community cooperation.
