Oral and Dental Screening for Disabled Individuals from MAKÜ Faculty of Dentistry

Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) Faculty of Dentistry made a meaningful event within the scope of December 3rd International Day of Persons with Disabilities. In collaboration with the MAKÜ Disabled Student Coordination, Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Ali Alp Sağlam, Pedodontics Department Lecturer Züleyha Gül, and Faculty of Dentistry students visited Şehit Hakan Aktürk Special Education Vocational School and conducted oral and dental screenings for individuals with special needs.

 

During the event, the importance of oral and dental health was emphasized, and efforts were made to raise awareness about oral hygiene among individuals. Participants were given detailed information on topics such as correct tooth brushing techniques, prevention of tooth decay, and the use of dental floss during the screening. Additionally, information was provided about the effects of dental health on general health.

 

Goal: Awareness and Health Consciousness
MAKÜ Faculty of Dentistry Dean Prof. Dr. Ali Alp Sağlam highlighted that such social responsibility projects not only improve individuals' health but also create significant awareness to enhance the quality of life for disabled individuals in society. Dean Sağlam emphasized the importance of providing equal health services to all segments of society and stated that such events will continue.

 

The students expressed their happiness in being part of this event and stated that as future dentists, social responsibility awareness holds great importance for them.

 

Thanks from Parents and School Management
At the end of the event, the parents of students with special needs and the school management thanked the MAKÜ Faculty of Dentistry team, stating that such events play an important role in increasing their children's health awareness.
