A meaningful cooperation protocol was signed between our university's Center for Aging Studies (MAKÜ YAŞAM) and Burdur Hilmi Hafize Evin Nursing Home Directorate. Within the scope of the protocol, various studies will be conducted to enable individuals over the age of 65 living in Burdur and receiving services from the nursing home to continue their lives in better conditions and to improve their psychomotor and psychosocial well-being. The studies to be carried out in this context will be supported by MAKÜ Happiness Research Coordination and MAKÜ Faculty of Sport Sciences, which are partners of MAKÜ YAŞAM.
Thanks to the cooperation, activities to boost the morale and motivation of the elderly, scientific research, and professional studies will be implemented through the joint efforts of experts in the fields of university and social services. Within the scope of multidisciplinary activities planned under the coordination of MAKÜ YAŞAM; Psychosocial development, motivation, and happiness-themed talks will be conducted by MAKÜ Happiness Research Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökmen Arslan, while the planning and implementation of physical activities suitable for the aging period will be planned by our Faculty Members of MAKÜ Faculty of Sport Sciences Prof. Dr. Oğuzhan Dalkıran, Dr. Lecturer Çiğdem Bacak, and Dr. Lecturer Emine Büşra Yılmaz. The planned cultural and artistic activities are planned to be carried out under the coordination of Faculty of Education Fine Arts Education Department Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Esra Dalkıran and MAKÜ Music Culture Application and Research Center Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alper Börekçi.
Joint Studies for Active Aging
Within the framework of the signed protocol, many practices will be implemented to ensure the more active participation of elderly individuals in social life, support their physical and mental health, and make their aging processes more quality. In this context:
Monthly event planning will be made for nursing home residents.
Impact analyses regarding the participation and satisfaction of elderly individuals will be evaluated.
Academic and professional studies will be conducted under the leadership of our University's Center for Aging Studies Application and Research.
Social service and psychosocial support programs will be developed for nursing home residents.
First event: Turkish Folk Music night
The first event to be organized within the scope of the protocol will be the Turkish Folk Music Night, which will be held on Wednesday, February 26, at 20:00 at MAKÜ Conference and Exhibition Hall. With this event, which is open to the participation of nursing home residents, their families, and staff, it is aimed to integrate elderly individuals more into social life through artistic activities.
“More active aging in Burdur”
Emphasizing the importance of the protocol, Nursing Home Director İbrahim Çetinkaya said, “We are happy to sign a study that will increase the quality of life of our elderly. With this cooperation we have made with the university, we aim to develop elderly services both academically and socially.”
MAKÜ Center for Aging Studies Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz Say Şahin stated, “This protocol is an important step towards improving the living standards of elderly individuals. As a university, we will be alongside our elders in the nursing home with scientific research and activities, and we aim to increase multidisciplinary studies in the field of aging by receiving support from different units of our university within the scope of the activities we will carry out.”
Dr. Lecturer Çiğdem Bacak from MAKÜ Faculty of Sport Sciences also participated in the meetings within the scope of the protocol, stating that they closely follow the activities carried out by MAKÜ YAŞAM and that they will support the activities to be carried out as MAKÜ Faculty of Sport Sciences. This important step taken to ensure that elderly individuals live in better conditions in Burdur aims to contribute to a healthy and happy aging process. Various social, cultural, and academic studies are planned to be implemented in the future within the scope of the protocol.
