'Duyusal Sosyal Etkileşim Atölyeleri' Started at MAKÜ

Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) Aging Studies Application and Research Center (YAŞAM) and Happiness Research Coordination organized 'Sensory Social Interaction Workshops', which started at Burdur Hilmi Hafize Evin Nursing Home Elderly Care and Rehabilitation Center.

 

Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Social Work Department Faculty Member and YAŞAM Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz Say Şahin, Happiness Research Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökmen Arslan and Gölhisar Vocational School Home Care Program Lecturer Inst. Gör. Gülnihal Altun lead the project, aiming to alleviate the feelings of loneliness and isolation of nursing home residents, support their cognitive abilities, and improve their social skills.

 

Meaningful Contribution from Volunteer Students

 

YAŞAM volunteer students, under the guidance of faculty members, organized various sensory activities, games, and group work, spending enjoyable time with the nursing home residents. Through these activities, students reinforced their sense of social responsibility while contributing to their own professional development.

 

Emphasis on Intergenerational Solidarity

 

Emphasizing the importance of the event, YAŞAM Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz Say Şahin stated that the workshops would last for 5 weeks, highlighting the importance of ensuring intergenerational solidarity, communication, and interaction. Şahin said, “We aim to bring participants together on common values despite generational differences.”

 

Strengthening Social Bonds

 

The nursing home management and participants expressed that such events play an important role in enhancing the quality of life of elderly individuals and strengthening social bonds. The positive impact of the events on the nursing home residents was met with satisfaction.
