The ‘Sign Language Awareness Event’ held at Burdur Merkez Bahçelievler Şehit Sıdkı Kara Primary School and Burdur Merkez Özboyacı Primary School was organized to help primary school students better understand hearing-impaired individuals and gain awareness of sign language. The event was carried out with the active participation of students from the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Dentistry who are taking the elective course in Sign Language.

Another event was conducted by the nursing department students of the Faculty of Health Sciences for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-grade students of Burdur Merkez Özboyacı Primary School.

Sign Language Taught with Hand Alphabet

In the event, the hand alphabet, which is the basis of sign language, was taught practically. Students actively participated in the process by learning to write their names and surnames in sign language. Students both learned while having fun and gained awareness about empathy.

After the event, Dr. Lecturer Hanife Ülgen thanked all the school principals, especially Abdurrahman Sert and Mehmet Tezcan, the school administration, teachers, and all the students who added color to the event with their affection, for their support in organizing the event.
